About the event

United States and Canada have established a vibrant community of safety and training with almost 50 GWO Certified Training providers, supporting almost 15,000 U.S and Canadian workers who are trained to industry standards Meanwhile, Central and South American training providers are playing a huge part in the region's safety performance as markets like Mexico and Brazil add more wind to their energy mix.

Recognising that the Americas have an increasing market for wind and a strong community of training providers, we designed the Safety & Training Forum with a programme that activated and engaged with various stakeholders. By facilitating dynamic discussions and interactions, the event aimed to fortify the foundation for future partnerships and initiatives in the realm of safety training, establishing a solid platform for ongoing collaboration and advancements within the industry.

Panel Discussion: "How Will Standards Help to Solve the Workforce Challenge?"

The conversation explored the pivotal role of standardisation in meeting industry needs, spotlighting the recent collaboration between GWO and ACP on the Guidelines for Entry-Level Wind Technicians. As Julie Brown emphasised, “Training standards play a crucial role in ensuring that our workforce is adequately prepared for the challenges ahead. Establishing clear and comprehensive standards sets a baseline for the knowledge and competencies required across various industries and professions .”

Focus on Instructor Development

Thomas Grønlund introduced the soon-to-be-released Instructor Qualification Standard. Following, Dan Ortega, GWO's North America Representative, took the lead in facilitating a panel discussion on the significance of instructor development. The panel featured seasoned instructors who played instrumental roles in shaping the IQ Standard globally including: Brandon McKelvain, Training Manager (Safety Technology USA) Magdalena Kryszewska, Managing Director (Windhunter Academy) Claire Wright, Lead Trainer (Wright Training) and Thomas Grønlund, Senior Project Manager (GWO)
